AI use for schoolwork vs performance
Every participating country plotted by how much its 15-year-olds use AI chatbots for schoolwork and how they score. Switch the subject, filter by region, or read the pattern as bands instead of a cloud of dots.
The index of AI use for schoolwork combines how often students use AI chatbots to summarise texts, do preliminary research, draft writing assignments and help them learn. The OECD average is 0, so positive values mean more AI use than the OECD average. Higher AI use is associated with lower mean scores, but the relationship is weak (R² = 0.17) and is not evidence that AI use causes lower performance.
